COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Wednesday night, the Ohio State Buckeyes didn't let their shiny new ranking go to their heads.

Instead, they took their coach's message about improved defense to heart and showed the balance that gives them a legitimate chance to be No. 1 when it really counts.

An Iowa team that had hung tough with the Buckeyes a little more than two weeks ago stood little chance Wednesday night as Ohio State clicked early and muscled its way to its 19th victory in as many tries, 70-48, at Value City Arena.

The Buckeyes took over the top spot in both national polls earlier this week, and their first win as No. 1 wasn't exactly a thing of beauty as the Buckeyes committed 20 turnovers. But they forced 24 turnovers, and their defense left an overmatched Iowa squad fighting for good looks -- or even any look. The Buckeyes had longer arms, quicker feet and a purpose.
