Yu Darvish looked sharp and Jorge Alfaro homered as the Rangers opened the season with an intrasquad scrimmage Sunday.

Darvish struck out two of the three batters he faced in a 14-pitch first inning, getting Michael Choice and Rougned Odor on punchouts after Antoan Richardson opened the game with a grounder to second.

Alfaro, who went 2 for 2, homered to left off Alec Asher in the fifth inning of the six-inning game.  Veterans Ryan Ludwick and Nate Schierholtz each had two-hit games.

Ross Detwiler, Nick Martinez, Nick Tepesch and Anthony Ranaudo – four of the competitors for the No. 5 rotation spot – piched in the game. None of the four allowed a run and Ranaudo had three strikeouts.
