Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish finished third in the American League rookie of the year voting.

Los Angeles outfielder Mike Trout was the unanimous winner of the award, receiving all 28 first-place votes. Oakland outfielder Yoenis Cespedes finished second.

Darvish finished with nine second-place votes and 19 third-place votes, giving him 46 points. Cespedes had 63 points.

Darvish went 16-9 with a 3.90 ERA in his first season with Texas.

The last Texas player to receive votes for the award was right-hander Neftali Feliz, who won the award in 2010.

Five get ST invites

Left-hander Neal Cotts, whose chance at making the Ranges out of spring training because of a strained lat, was one of five players signed to minor-league deals that include a trip to spring training.

The Rangers also signed catcher Juan Apodaca, outfielder Jim Adduci, outfielder Aaron Cunningham and right-handed pitcher Yonata Ortega.

Of those four, only Cunningham has major-league experience. He played 72 games for Cleveland this year, hitting .175 with seven RBIs. He’s also played for Oakland and San Diego.

Another honor for Beltre

Third baseman Adrian Beltre, who won his fourth Gold Glove two weeks ago, added his second Rawlings Platinum Glove Award to his trophy case. The honor goes to one defensive player in each league. It was started last year with Beltre winning it.
