Darius Slay ruled out

Detroit Lions rookie cornerback Darius Slay will miss Sunday's game at Philadelphia because of a knee injury suffered two days ago in practice, the club confirmed Saturday.

The Lions, meanwhile, promoted cornerback Chris Greenwood from the practice squad to the 53-man roster because of a depleted secondary while releasing receiver/return specialist Micheal Spurlock.

Greenwood was a fifth-round draft pick in 2012 out of Albion College, but he missed all of last season with an abdominal injury. He got signed off of Detroit's practice squad earlier this season by Dallas but later was released by the Cowboys and picked  back up by the Lions.

Spurlock became expendable because he had lost the punt- and kick-return duties in recent weeks to Jeremy Ross.

Not only is Slay out, but another cornerback, Chris Houston, who missed the last game because of a foot injury, is listed as questionable for the game against the Eagles.
