Andy Dalton is a year away from free agency -- or is he?
The quarterback told Sirius XM NFL Radio Monday (via ProFootballTalk.com) proposals have been exchanged between his representatives and the Bengals, the team he has led to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons in the league.
"We're working on it," Dalton said. "Hopefully, we can get something done. I'm not too worried about it. I know in the right timing everything is going to happen, but, obviously, everyone would like to get something done sooner rather than later."
Dalton broke Cincinnati franchise records for touchdown passes (33) and passing yards (4,296) last season, but he committed three turnovers in a decisive 27-10 home loss to the Chargers in the playoffs in January.
That dropped him to 0-3 as a starter in the postseason and did nothing to silence questions among fans and the media about his ability to lead the franchise long term.
Upon being promoted to offensive coordinator, Hue Jackson stated he did not share those feelings, though.
"There is no question in my mind about him, just so you guys can hear me say it again," Jackson said in February. "After doing this self-scouting, evaluating everything that I've seen there is one thing I can be very sure about: that he is the right man for the job."
