PHOENIX (AP) -- The Diamondbacks ended Adam Eaton's rehabilitation stint in the minors Tuesday after their expected starting center fielder felt soreness in his injured elbow.
Eaton had been used as a designated hitter in the minors for the past few weeks but began playing the outfield last weekend to get into game shape. D-backs manager Kirk Gibson, speaking before Wednesday's game at Coors Field, said Eaton felt discomfort in the right elbow during an appearance with Triple-A Reno on Monday and was returning to Phoenix to be examined by team doctor Michael Lee.
Eaton, projected to be the team's starting center fielder and leadoff hitter after a strong showing in the majors late last year, has been on the disabled list all season after spraining his left elbow in spring training.
