Game recap: D-backs left-hander Patrick Corbin gave up three runs in five innings while throwing 74 pitches in his longest start of the spring. He has one more scheduled appearance in Arizona before starting the D-backs' regular-season opener against the Dodgers in Australia. "The more I get out there, the better I feel," Corbin said. A.J. Pollock had an extra-base hit for the third straight game, doubling and scoring in a two-run fifth inning, when the Diamondbacks tied the game at 3.
Hitting notes: Pollock, who homered Saturday and doubled Sunday, is hitting .393 with three doubles, two triples and a homer. ... Martin Prado had his fifth double of the spring and is hitting .500. ... Tony Campana stole his third base of the spring, taking second base in the seventh inning. He is 3 for 3. ... Mark Trumbo singled and drove in a run on a groundout, and he also made a nice play in left field on Mike Zunino's long fly ball in the fourth. Trumbo ran back to the warning track and caught the ball with a slight leap at the fence. It was not an easy play.
Pitching notes: Corbin was in top form in the third inning, when he struck out the side after giving up a leadoff single. Corbin located his fastball and got all three strikeouts on his slider. "We tried to make an adjustment for that third inning, just attack with my fastball, and from there on I felt pretty good," said Corbin, who has given up seven runs in 13 innings this spring. ... Will Harris struck out four, three looking, and did not allow a hit in two innings. He has given up one run in six innings this spring ... Joe Thatcher pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning, striking out two. ... Joe Paterson pitched a scoreless ninth and picked a runner off first base to end the inning.
Short hops: Bronson Arroyo played long toss for the third straight day Monday and remains in some discomfort, which could put a scheduled bullpen session March 10 in jeopardy. "I guess he is not great, but I don't know what that means," manager Kirk Gibson said. "The longer it goes on, the more he is going to get pushed back. We'll wait and see" on the bullpen session. "It's been slow." Gibson said Archie Bradley, Randall Delgado, Bo Schultz and Josh Collmenter would be candidates to start in place of Arroyo if he is unable to open the regular season. Because of the time off after the Australia trip, the D-backs would not be required to use a fifth starter until April 4 if they choose to use Sydney starters Patrick Corbin and Trevor Cahill again before the No. 5 spot comes up. ... After being told he would not make the D-backs' roster, Rule 5 draft pick Marcos Mateo has 48 hours to decide whether to return to the Cubs' Class AAA Iowa affiliate, report to the D-backs' Class AAA Reno affiliate or declare for free agency. The D-backs selected him from the Cubs at the winter meetings. ... Left-hander Santos Rodriguez was outrighted to Class AAA Reno to make room on the 40-man roster for Oliver Perez.
