D-backs claim Tuiasosopo off waivers, lose Roe

The Diamondbacks announced a series of minor roster moves Friday, including the acquisition of outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo off waivers from the Tigers and the loss of reliever Chaz Roe, who was claimed off waivers by the Rangers.

The D-backs also moved starting pitcher Daniel Hudson, left-handed reliever Matt Reynolds and outfielder Cody Ross from the 60-day disabled list to the 40-man roster, an offseason formality.
As expected, Willie Bloomquist, Eric Chavez and Wil Nieves filed for free agency on Thursday, making them free to sign with any team.
Bloomquist is expected to draw interest from the NL teams on the West Coast. He turned down a two-year, $5.5 million deal with San Francisco before signing a two-year, $3.8 million contract with the D-backs in 2012.
It is uncertain Hudson, 26, will pitch next season after he re-tore his ulnar collateral ligament in June while rehabbing an injury suffered the previous July. The same is true for Reynolds, who recently re-signed with the D-backs on a one-year contract (with a team option for 2015) but might not pitch at all this season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Ross is recovering from a dislocated right hip suffered while running the bases in August. He is expected to be on crutches until near the end of the calendar year, and while he has said that he hopes to be back for the start of next season, the Diamondbacks have set no timetable for his return.

In 164 at-bats last season with the Tigers, Tuiasosopo hit .244 with four homers, seven doubles and 30 RBIs. The 27-year-old also spent three seasons with the Mariners from 2008-10.

Roe appeared in 21 games for the Diamondbacks last year, going 1-0 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.388 WHIP. The 27-year-old struck out 24 batters and walked 13 in 22 1/3 innings pitched.

The D-backs' 40-man roster is now at 39 players.
