The Diamondbacks reinstated outfielder Cody Ross from the 15-day disabled list Friday and designated reliever Ryan Rowland-Smith for assignment.

Ross suffered a dislocated right hip on Aug. 11 last season while running to first base during a game against the Mets and missed the rest of the season. At the time, he was hitting .278 with eight homers and 38 RBIs.

The 30-year-old Ross recently returned for a rehab stint at Triple-A Reno, where he hit .290 with a double and seven RBIs in nine games. He will be available for the D-backs' series opener against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Rowland-Smith appeared in six games with Arizona this season and posted a 4.91 ERA, allowing four earned runs in 7 1/3 innings.
