Cueto to miss rehab start with oblique injury
Reds’ ace, Johnny Cueto, who was already on the DL with a strained lat will miss his scheduled rehab start today in Double-A due to oblique soreness.
Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports Cueto did not experience any pain in his arm during his bullpen Monday, but had some soreness in the same oblique that plagued him last year.
During last year’s NLDS versus San Francisco, Cueto left game one after only eight pitches with a strained right oblique.
Although neither of the injuries are anything too serious, the oblique soreness is worrisome because it may become something that may ail Cueto in the future.
Cueto is to be examined by the Reds’ training staff again on Monday and a makeup rehab start should be following sometime soon.
With the injury, the Reds will continue to have young left-hander Tony Cingrani take over Cueto’s starts.
Cingrani is having an impression season so far with a 2-0 record over three starts and a miniscule 1.50 ERA. With the experience and success Cingrani has had so far it will leave the Reds’ front office with some starting rotation decisions to make once the ace Cueto returns.
