On Sunday afternoon, the Dallas Mavericks will be making their annual trip to New York to face the Knicks.
The nationally televised game will have a little bit more flare than just that of the NBA champions playing in historic Madison Square Garden.
It will be the Mavericks' first taste of "Linsanity."
Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin, who has taken the NBA by storm and has New York rolling on a seven-game win streak, will be facing the team that gave him his first shot in the NBA in 2010, when he played for the Mavericks summer league team after going undrafted.
But despite putting up historic numbers in his first six starts, Mavs owner Mark Cuban believes "Linsanity" wouldn't be as big a deal if Lin was playing in a city such as Charlotte, and that playing in New York has been a big part of the player's new-found popularity, The Dallas Morning News reports.
"David Lee, Nate Robinson, when they all came out of nowhere, they were the toast of the town, and that's the way it should be,'' Cuban said. "New York is still kind of the mecca for the media of basketball. ... It's great for the league, and Jeremy Lin is a great kid, so I'm happy for him.''
New York, Charlotte, wherever ... we do know one thing now: Lin will be traveling to Orlando at the end of the month. On Thursday, the NBA announced Lin will be a part of the NBA All-Star Game festivities after being added to the Rising Stars Challenge. Lin will also be there to assist teammate Iman Shumpert in the Slam Dunk Contest.
