Crawford sent to ER with fever, out vs. Reds

LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers say it's precautionary, but any trip to the local emergency room has to be viewed with a bit of concern.

That's where left fielder Carl Crawford was headed Saturday afternoon after he came to the ballpark with a fever and high temperature. Manager Don Mattingly said Crawford didn't feel well Friday night but played anyway after feeling better following batting practice.

Crawford is taking antibiotics, and Mattingly was prepared to play him Saturday, but the outfielder still didn't feel well.

"To me, he didn't look as good today," Mattingly said before the Dodgers faced the Cincinnati Reds at Dodger Stadium. "I was going to play him, but he didn't look great today when I saw him. I was going to shoot for tomorrow and give him today (off), so I think we'll be OK with him.

"I think it's fairly precautionary, him going to the emergency room.”

Crawford was also held out of Sunday's lineup as he continued to fight the fever.

Crawford has been among the team's hottest hitters since the All-Star break, with a seven-game hitting streak. He's batting .424 (14 for 33) during that stretch with three doubles and three RBIs. He was 3 for 4 Friday night in a 2-1 win over the Reds.
