Coyotes sign forward Brown out of Michigan
The Phoenix Coyotes signed forward Chris Brown to an entry-level contract Thursday. As per club policy, terms of the three-year deal were not disclosed.
The 21-year-old Brown recorded 12 goals, 17 assists and 66 penalty minutes in 38 games with Michigan this past season as a junior and will be forgoing his senior year. He set career highs in assists, points and penalty minutes.
The Coyotes selected the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Brown in the second round (36th overall) in 2009. The native of Flower Mound, Texas, registered 34 goals, 46 assists and 183 penalty minutes in 125 regular-season games in his three-year career at Michigan.
Prior to his career at Michigan, Brown played for the National Under-18 Team as part of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program. As an 18-year-old, he recorded 20 goals, 18 assists and a team-leading 120 penalty minutes in 62 games, and he helped lead Team USA to the gold medal in the 2009 IIHF Under-18 World Championship in North Dakota, collecting four goals and three assists in seven games. He also won a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, N.Y., tallying two goals and an assist in six games.
