Dallas Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones – you know, the son of owner/GM Jerry – cooked up quite the statement Tuesday.

"We're convinced we've got the secret sauce to put this thing back together again and win championships," Jones said.

Jones' comments, published by The Dallas Morning News and others, caused quite the stir as the Cowboys prepare for their final preseason game Thursday against the Texans.

The Cowboys' last Super Bowl win was in January of 1996 and they've won one playoff game in the last 16 seasons.

If they've got the secret sauce, it's been a well-kept secret.

"We can always be better," Stephen Jones said. "We look for ways to be better. We do that both on the field and off the field."

The Cowboys have gone 8-8 each of the last two seasons, with a chance to make the playoffs with a win in the final game. Jones said he believes this season will be an improvement.

"We certainly expect it to be," Jones said. "Our commitment when we started was no more 8-8s. I think we've got good personnel. I think we've got a great staff. I think we can do that. We need to stay healthy. We need to stay focused. We need to get better every day. And I think we'll be better than 8-8."
