Cowboys' Smith first offensive tackle since 1992 to win Player of the Week
IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys' offensive line was already drawing comparisons to the famous unit that paved the way to three Super Bowl wins in the 1900s. Now they've got an award to prove it.
Left tackle Tyron Smith was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday by the NFL. An offensive tackle has not won the weekly honor since the Cowboys' own Erik Williams was named Player of the Week in 1992 (Week 9).
"It says that Tyron Smith is a tremendous player," center Travis Frederick said. "The way that he works is what makes him such a great player. He works not only off the field, in the weight room and in the film room, but on the field he works to perfect his craft every day."
Smith won the award after coaches graded him the highest of the linemen in Sunday's 30-23 win at Seattle. Smith helped the Cowboys total 401 yards of of-fense and possess the ball for 37:39 in the win.
Running back DeMarco Murray rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown at Seattle. Murray, who leads the NFL with 785 rushing yards, joined Jim Brown as the only backs to rush for 100 yards in each of the first six games to start a season.
While Williams was the last tackle to win the award, the last offensive line-man, period, to win Offensive Player of the Week also has Cowboys ties. Offen-sive guard Brian Waters, who played part of last season with the Cowboys, won Offensive Player of the Week while with Kansas City in 2004.
