IRVING, Texas (AP) -- The Dallas Cowboys signed injured linebacker Jaylon Smith, their second-round draft pick, and former Baylor basketball player Rico Gathers on Friday.
While playing for Notre Dame, Smith tore two ligaments and sustained nerve damage in his left knee in his final college game at the Fiesta Bowl. The Cowboys say even though he has a long rehabilitation in front of him, they are confident he can work his way back.
Gathers, their sixth-round pick, hasn't played football since he was 13. The 6-foot-8, 275-pound Gathers projects as a tight end after deciding against pursuing a career in the NBA.
