IRVING, Texas -- Doug Free is preparing for the worst. The worst case scenario would involve Free moving over to right guard and Jermey Parnell sliding into Free's spot at right tackle.

"I don't really know what's going to happen," Free said Wednesday, "so we'll just prepare for the worst and see where it goes."

Before the Dallas Cowboys signed veteran guard Brian Waters on Sept. 3, Free took practice reps at right guard during practice. With Waters likely done for the season with a triceps injury, Free received some reps at the position again on Wednesday.

But before the Cowboys elect to move Free inside, Mackenzy Bernadeau, who started 14 games at right guard last season, will get a shot at regaining his starting spot.

"It's definitely going to hurt not having [Waters] out there, but we're going to have to fight through it and do what we can," Free said. "Mack does a great job as well. They're both good players. So I mean, we'll be able to get it done either way."
