The Dallas Cowboys are interviewing former Arkansas and Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt for one of their openings on the offensive side of the ball, sources told FoxSportsSouthwest.com. Nutt has been seeking employment in the NFL and it makes sense that he would start by talking to his longtime friend Jerry Jones.
Nutt would likely end up as tight ends coach, although Jason Garrett's older brother John currently holds that title, along with passing game coordinator. John is reportedly in the running for the head-coaching position at Delaware. The Cowboys also have an opening at running backs coach after firing Skip Peete.
The Cowboys have left the door open for Garrett to hand over the playcalling duties to another coach, but Nutt won't be considered for that role. All signs point to offensive coordinator Bill Callahan taking over playcalling. He's done it before as head coach at Nebraska and Oakland.
There are also reports the Cowboys are talking to former Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli about a spot on Monte Kiffin's staff. The two worked together in Tampa for several years.
