Corps de Ballet wins turf feature at Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Corps de Ballet closed with a rush to win the $58,000 feature by a half-length Friday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Tyler Baze, Corps de Ballet ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:14.62 and paid $9.40, $5.40 and $3.60 as the 7-2 third choice in a field of seven 2-year-old fillies and mares. She had been idle since Feb. 14 for trainer Simon Callaghan.
Nine Point Nine returned $18.20 and $11.60 at 26-1 odds, while Cuyathy was another half-length back in third and paid $9.20 to show at 37-1 odds.
Irish-bred Well Caught stumbled badly out of the starting gate, dropped back to last and stayed there as the 7-5 favorite in her U.S. debut for Callaghan.
The victory, worth $34,800, increased Corps de Ballet's career earnings to $80,725, with two wins in eight starts.
