Columbus Blue Jackets sign defensemen Prout to two-year extension
COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Dalton Prout to a two-year contract extension, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Prout, 24, has scored three goals and dished out ten assists for 13 points in 82 career NHL games, all with Columbus. He has also recorded a plus/minus rating of +9 and 62 penalty minutes. Last season, the 6-3, 222-pound blueliner tallied 2-4-6 in 49 games, finishing seventh on the Jackets in blocked shots (65) while firing a career-high 56 shots on goal.
Columbus' seventh pick, 154th overall, at the 2010 NHL Draft, Prout tallied one goal and six assists for seven points with 27 penalty minutes and a +15 rating in 28 games with the Blue Jackets during the 2012-13 campaign, leading the club in plus/minus while ranking second among rookie NHL defensemen in that category.
A native of Kingsville, Ontario, Prout has appeared in 117 career American Hockey League games with the Springfield Falcons, registering 7-18-25 in addition to 138 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, he recorded 17-49-66 in 286 career Ontario Hockey League games with Sarnia, Barrie and Saginaw from 2006-10.
