Coaches Poll Out: 8 SEC Schools in Top 25

Yes, that's right, eight of them. You can see the coaches poll here. Oklahoma notches the top spot closely followed by Alabama. And how about that Oregon-LSU match-up that OKTC will be there to cover live on September 3? It's now the number three team, Oregon, taking on the number four team, LSU. The hype machine just blew up. I can't wait for that game. Willie Lyles is pumped!

But let's take a step back for a moment and look at all of these SEC schools. I can't remember when one conference ever put 8 teams in a preseason poll before. That kind of respect despite the fact that Vegas, for instance, put Auburn's win total over/under at 6 this year. Alabama is 2, LSU 4, South Carolina 12, Arkansas 14, Auburn 19, Mississippi State 20, Georgia 22 and Florida rounds it out at 24.

Put another way, the only SEC schools not ranked in the top 25 are: Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Ole Miss.

By the way, who is the only school in the SEC that plays the other 7 ranked teams? Try Auburn.

Ouch.

Breaking it down by power conferences here's what it looks like:

1. SEC -- 8 teams

2. Big 12 - 5 teams

3. Big Ten - 5 teams

4. ACC - 2 teams

5. Pac 12 - 2 teams

6. Big East- 0 teams

Boise State, TCU, and Notre Dame round out the poll.
