Clippers sign guard Wayns to 10-day contract
The Clippers, who have been dealing with injuries in their backcourt of late, signed guard Maalik Wayns to a 10-day contract Saturday.
Wayns, an undrafted rookie from Villanova, started the season with the Philadelphia 76ers but was waived in January before signing a 10-day contract with the Sixers. He played in 21 games, including one start, and averaged 2.7 points and 1.0 assists.
Wayns, 21, then signed with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA’s D-League and played in nine games, three starts. He averaged 12.4 points and 3.0 assists.
The 6-2, 200-pound guard played two seasons at Villanova and was named to the All-Big East rookie team as a freshman.
Clippers reserve guards Jamal Crawford (sore left ankle) and Eric Bledsoe (calf) have been nursing injuries in the past week. The addition of Wayns may allow coach Vinny Del Negro to give them additional rest until they’re fully recovered.
