CJ Wilson: Hamilton could break Bonds' record
When C.J. Wilson arrived in Texas this weekend for his first visit as a member of the rival Los Angeles Angels, he entered as a newfound enemy.
But a comment he posted on his Twitter page might go a long way in getting back some of his former Ranger fans.
On Saturday, Wilson faced off with red-hot Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton. After his record-breaking week where Hamilton was hitting home runs at a torrid pace, the question of "should pitchers pitch around Hamilton" started to gain some steam on popular television shows and websites.
Wilson addressed his thoughts on how he felt approaching Hamilton.
"Know a lot of people might want to pitch around hamilton, but their lineup is too good,'' Wilson posted on his Twitter account. "He might break bonds record this year, no joke.''
The record Wilson is referring to is the 73 home runs that Barry Bonds hit during the 2001 season, the single-season record.
Hamilton is on a record setting pace. He has 18 home runs in 35 games. In 2001, Bonds did not reach his 18th home run until the 41st game of the season.
What makes Hamilton's number even more impressive, he missed three games in Toronto due to injury, meaning he has hit 18 home runs in only 32 games played.
