Citadel take down Appalachian State 81-63
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Cameron Wells scored 19 points to lead four Bulldogs in double figures and The Citadel defeated Appalachian State 81-63 on Thursday night.
Mike Groselle chipped in 18 points, Zach Urbanus 17 and Bo Holston added 15 on 7-of-7 shooting. The Bulldogs (7-13, 3-5 Southern Conference) shot 61.8 percent from the field (34 of 55), including 43.8 percent from 3-point range (7 of 16).
The Citadel led 41-25 at halftime after holding the Mountaineers (8-10, 4-3) to 8-of-27 shooting (29.6 percent).
Ahead 12-10, the Bulldogs used a 20-3 run to take a 32-13 lead on Wells' jumper with 5:52 left in the first half. The Citadel would lead by no less than 11 points and by as many as 23 the rest of the way. The Citadel scored 44 points in the paint and had 18 assists.
Donald Simms led the Mountaineers with 28 points and Petey Hausley added 12.
