Cincinnati Bengals bit by injury bug yet again

The Bengals have lost two more players to season-ending injuries.

First-year Cincinnati kicker Mike Nugent, who helped get the Bengals off to a 2-1 start, was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday. This came one day after he suffered a right kicking knee injury after finding himself at the bottom of a pile following his successful onside kick late in the game during the loss at Indianapolis.

An MRI exam on Sunday confirmed that Nugent tore his anterior cruciate ligament. He also sprained his medial collateral ligament when he planted his right foot wrong as the play developed.

"It's disappointing for him and disappointing for us," said Bengals special teams coach Darrin Simmons.

The Bengals, who also placed promising cornerback Morgan Trent on the season-ending injury list on Monday, need to find a new kicker. Dave Rayner, who was beaten out for the Bengals job by Nugent before being waived in September, is with the Lions. Another former Bengals kicker, Shayne Graham, is with New England.
