Chisox' Sale makes progress
White Sox ace Chris Sale threw a 40-pitch bullpen session on Monday. This qualifies as big news, as the Sox have been somewhat tight-lipped about Sale's recovery from a flexor muscle strain. If all goes well, Sale will begin a rehab assignment in 10-14 days, so a June 1 return date sounds reasonable.
On to the rest of the news:
In Blue Jays' news, C Dioner Navarro (quad) expects to be back in the lineup on Wednesday, closer Casey Janssen made the first of (probably) four or five rehab appearances on Monday, and 3B Brett Lawrie figures to be out until at least Thursday due to a hamstring injury.
The Dodgers expect to have OF Yasiel Puig back in the lineup tonight. Puig sat out Monday's game after crashing into an outfield fence on Sunday.
Streaming starters: Jose Quintana pitched seven innings of one-hit ball against the Cubs on Monday, raising our record to 22-13 for the season. Today's pick is Padres' lefty Robbie Erlin (owned in 0.6 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the Royals, while Wednesday's selection is Colby Lewis (1.6 percent owned) versus the Rockies.
The Nationals seem to think that they'll get C Wilson Ramos (hand) back from the DL sometime this week. Ramos is owned in just 40 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, and is an excellent pickup if you're looking for a free agent. If Ramos' power returns, he's a top-12 fantasy catcher.
Ernesto Frieri got Monday's save for the Angels. Mike Scioscia wasn't kidding about getting Frieri back into the closer role, huh?
Remember the brawl that Carlos Gomez got into a couple of weeks ago? Gomez's appeal will be heard on Friday, meaning that a decision on whether to uphold or reduce his suspension should come sometime next week.
Indians OF Michael Bourn is day to day after reinjuring his hamstring on Saturday.
Royals OF Lorenzo Cain had four hits in his return to the lineup on Monday. Cain is owned in just 1.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, in case you're looking for an outfielder with a little speed in a deep league. In other news from Monday's Royals-Padres game, Yordano Ventura whiffed 10 batters in six innings. That'll happen when you throw 123 mph.
Twins 1B Joe Mauer (back spasms) didn't play Monday, and is still day to day.
Samuel Deduno, who wasn't horrible as a starter last season (3.83 ERA, 1.35 WHIP), will rejoin the Twins' rotation tonight against the Indians. AL-only owners can consider picking up Deduno.
Rookie Blake Treinen will make his first big-league start tonight for the Nationals. Treinen throws hard, but isn't considered as much of a prospect, so you shouldn't expect too much.
It's getting frustrating waiting for a win, isn't it, Jeff Samardzija owners?
Read this if you want to know why the Cardinals are in no hurry to promote top OF prospect Oscar Taveras.
D-backs OF A.J. Pollock (groin) is still day to day, but he's getting close to a return.
The Padres hope to get 3B Chase Headley and OF Carlos Quentin back from the DL this week.
See you back here tomorrow morning.
