Cavs' Irving out vs. Bulls with sore knee
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving will miss Tuesday night’s game at Chicago with a sore/hyperextended right knee, team officials said.
Irving reportedly bumped the knee at practice prior to the Cavs’ 118-94 win on Saturday in Orlando. He was running gingerly for parts of that game. It also bothered him the next night in Miami during a 109-105 loss.
Irving is listed as day-to-day and could also miss Wednesday’s home game against Toronto.
If this were a playoff game, Irving would likely play. However, the Cavs don’t want to run the risk of the soreness not going away or the knee not healing properly.
The Cavs, who have landed three top-four draft picks in the past two years, are hoping to win as much as possible in the second-half of the season without an eye on the lottery.
Irving is averaging team-highs in points (23.3), assists (5.6) and steals (1.6). Shaun Livingston will start in his place against the Bulls.
