Cards notebook: Kolb likely done for season
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The chances of quarterback Kevin Kolb returning this season for the Arizona Cardinals are looking far less likely. Kolb said Wednesday that he has hit a wall in his rehab process from cracked ribs that detached from his sternum.
“To be totally honest with you, the last couple weeks… when I really try to push it in the weight room and when I really try to push the ball downfield is when I’m kind of hitting that wall,” Kolb said.
Kolb said it's not so much pain that is holding him back as a lack of function. He also revealed that when the injury occurred, the ribs actually went under his sternum where they are calcifying, instead of lying flush with the sternum as in most people.
“That’s how they’re trying to heal,” he said. “That’s kind of what extends the process.”
Kolb later said he had no plans to correct the problem through surgery and that he is still holding out hope he can return this season.
“I’ve got to keep pushing,” he said. “I’ve got to do it for myself; for my sanity. If I let it creep in – just like before with all the questions we’ve answered about all the ups and downs – if you let it creep in it’s going to take control of you.”
“If I get the chance I’m going to go out there and battle with them.”
HUSH HUSH ON HEAP
Whisenhunt had little to say regarding the release of tight end Todd Heap on Tuesday.
“It’s an unfortunate situation,” Whisenhunt said. “You hoped that it would work out, but it just didn’t. Some times those (situations) just happen.”
When asked if the decision was mutual, Whisenhunt declined comment.
SOME HOPE FOR SKELTON?
Seahawks starting cornerback Brandon Browner will begin a four-game suspension Sunday for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy. Fellow starting cornerback Richard Sherman also is facing a potential four-game ban, but he is in the process of appealing and will play against the Cards.
Walter Thurmond will replace Browner in the lineup.
