A potentially crowded St. Louis bullpen now has one less potential member. The Cardinals traded left-handed reliever Sam Freeman to the Texas Rangers, the team announced Saturday.

The Cardinals will receive a player to be named or cash considerations.

Freeman, 27, pitched in 81 games for St. Louis from 2012-14. He had a career-high 44 appearances last season, when he was 2-0 with a 2.61 ERA.

Freeman was selected by the Cardinals in the 32nd round of the 2008 MLB Draft.

The team has 31 players on the 40-man roster, with 37 players remaining in major league camp.
