Cardinals release linebacker Jasper Brinkley

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:36 p.m. ET

Jasper Brinkley, who started three games at linebacker for the Cardinals in 2013 in addition to playing special teams, was given his release on Friday.

Brinkley, 28, who signed as a free agent last spring after four seasons in Minnesota, had 30 tackles and five special-teams tackles in his only season with the Cardinals.

The Cardinals also confirmed Friday that they will not retain strength and conditioning coach John Lott.

Lott has been with the Cardinals for seven years and was one of the few holdovers retained by Bruce Arians when he took over as head coach.

"Coach Arians let John know this morning that he's making a change and going in a different direction in that role," the team said in a statement. "Everyone at the team is certainly grateful to John for his contributions and wish him nothing but the best moving forward."
