Cardinals recall right-handed reliever Salas
ST. LOUIS – Fernando Salas has been recalled by the St. Louis Cardinals in a roster move that was made possible after right-handed reliever Keith Butler was shipped back to Triple-A Memphis following last Sunday night's game at Chicago.
Salas was 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 15 games prior to going on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. The right-handed reliever did not allow a run in 10 of his 11 appearances for the Triple-A Redbirds, going 1-1 with a 0.77 ERA and four saves.
Chris Carpenter will be one step closer to his return as well as he gets set for his second rehab assignment on Saturday with Triple-A Memphis. Carpenter worked into the third inning this past Monday (July 15) for Double-A Springfield in his first injury rehab start, striking out five over 2 2/3 innings of work.
