Cardinals recall lefty Tyler Lyons from Memphis

The St. Louis Cardinals' shuffling of their pitching staff continued Saturday with the recall of left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons from Triple-A Memphis and the option of left-hander Sam Freeman to Memphis.

Lyons, 25, has made seven starts for the Cardinals this year, going 2-4 with a 5.35 ERA. His last outing for the Cardinals was a July 30 start in which he allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits in six innings in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Pittsburgh.

Lyons was 7-2 with a 4.39 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 16 starts (98 1/3 innings) for Memphis this season. His most recent start for Memphis was Aug. 10 at Reno. 

Freeman compiled a 1-0 record in four big league games (four innings pitched) in 2013. He did not allow a run.
