Cardinals place Rosenthal on 10-day DL, recall Weaver

Trevor Rosenthal, the Cardinals' acting closer, was removed from Wednesday's game after allowing a home run and issuing a walk to the two batters he faced.
After making an unusually early exit from Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Cardinals reliever Trevor Rosenthal has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with right posterior elbow irritation. In a corresponding move, the Cardinals recalled pitcher Luke Weaver from Triple-A Memphis.
"Something didn't look right," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said about Rosenthal after Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox. "You see the 91 [mph] on the fastball and having troubles finding the zone. He's been a little tight."

Rosenthal, 27, has appeared in 50 games for the Cardinals this season, converting 11 saves in 13 chances. He has a 3-4 record with a 3.40 ERA and 76 strikeouts over 47 2/3 innings.
This will be Weaver's third stint with the Cardinals' big-league club this season. His last MLB appearance was a start against Milwaukee on August 3. He pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs while striking out eight and earning the win.
Weaver is 1-1 with a 3.77 ERA in four appearances (two starts) at the major league level this season.
In 15 minor league starts at Memphis, Weaver was 10-2 with a 2.55 ERA, striking out 76 batters in 77 2/3 innings. Weaver is expected to be available on Thursday as the Cardinals take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
