ST. LOUIS -- The Cardinals obtained an infielder to add to their major-league roster in a swap of minor leaguers with the Seattle Mariners.

The Cardinals sent right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio to Seattle in exchange for 26-year-old Ty Kelly.

Kelly, who was added to the Cardinals' 40-man roster, batted .263 with 15 home runs and 80 RBI (the 12th-best total in the Pacific Coast League) in 134 games at Triple-A Tacoma in 2014. A switch hitter, he hit 14 of his 15 homers from the left side last season.

Kelly, a 13th-round draft pick by the Orioles in 2009 out of UC-Davis, has career minor-league totals of a .282 average, .387 OBP, 39 homers, 336 RBI and 41 stolen bases in 703 games.
