The Cowboys needs in the secondary and the offensive line have been well chronicled by experts trying to project how the team will use the ninth overall pick in April's NFL Draft.
But is quarterback an option?
Cam Newton wouldn't shy away from the pressure if it was. The Heisman Trophy and national title-winning quarterback said in an interview with WFAA-TV that he wouldn't mind playing for the Cowboys.
"Jerry Jones, man he knows how to get hold of me, let's just say that," Newton told the news station."Whatever team gets me, it's going to be an honor in itself to be picked up and it's just going to be a dream come true."
With Tony Romo under contract for several years and a veteran roster that is crying out for talent to help win a championship now instead of developing players for later, Newton doesn't make very much sense in Dallas.
But Jerry Jones loves a splash, and Newton, between his on-the-field talents as well as the off-the-field controversy, would certainly fit the bill.
Of course, at the rate things are going Newton probably won't be an option for the Cowboys anyway. The quarterback's stock is shooting up draft boards after a workout for the media last season that earned rave reviews. Some prognosticators are now projecting him to go as high as third overall to the Buffalo Bills.
So there isn't much reason to expect Newton to wind up in Dallas. He certainly appears confident enough to take on the challenge if Jones winds up calling on him, though.
