Calixte in, Fuentes out as Royals accommodate Escobar's absence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals called up infielder Orlando Calixte from Triple A Omaha on Saturday afternoon, sending Reymond Fuentes back to the minors.

Calixte will provide infield insurance for Kansas City, which is missing starting shortstop Alcides Escobar due to a day-to-day left knee sprain. Calixte was 4 for 26 (.154) in seven Triple A games and has played second base, shortstop and third base this year.

With Escobar sidelined for perhaps just a day or two, Calixte's stay in the majors could be short-lived. He will be another option for the Royals to turn to in case Omar Infante, Christian Colon or Mike Moustakas gets injured.

Fuentes returns to Omaha one day after arriving in Kansas City. He did not play in Friday's game.
