California Diamond wins Barretts Juvenile at Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (AP) California Diamond caught pacesetter Crosscheck Carolos with an eighth of a mile to go and won the $100,000 Barretts Juvenile by 1 1/4 lengths Sunday at Los Alamitos.
Ridden by Hall of Famer Kent Desormeaux, California Diamond ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.37 and paid $4.40, $3.20 and $2.10 as the 6-5 second choice.
Crosscheck Carlos returned $6.80 and $2.60, while 4-5 favorite Big League was another seven lengths back in third and paid $2.10 to show. Peter Miller trains the winner and Big League.
The victory was the third in five career starts for California Diamond, who has earned $212,100. In his two losses, California Diamond finished second.
