TUCSON, Ariz. -- California scored four runs in the fifth inning Sunday en route to an 8-3 victory over the Arizona baseball team, clinching a series sweep afternoon at Hi Corbett Field.
Arizona starter Bobby Dalbec tossed four innings of no-hit ball before running into trouble in the fifth inning. Mitchell Kranson's one-out liner to left field was quickly followed by Devin Pearson's double to spark the rally.
Preston Grand Pre then reached on an error, driving in Kranson with the tying run. Nick Halamandaris followed with a run-scoring single, Robbie Tenerowicz squeezed home a run and Aaron Knapp delivered a two-out RBI single to cap the four-run frame.
California (26-14, 13-8 Pac-12) added a pair of runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth, while holding the Wildcats to single runs in the seventh and ninth innings.
Arizona (24-17, 9-12 Pac-12) took the initial lead in the fourth inning. Jared Oliva drew a walk, stole second and scored easily on JJ Matijevic's double.
But it was another day of missed opportunities for the Wildcats, who collected 11 base hits and drew five walks. The slumping club left 12 runners on base and finished 4-for-22 batting with runners on base.
Trailing 6-1 in the seventh, Arizona had a chance to tie the game.
Justin Behnke doubled off reliever Alex Schick and, after a wild pitch, scored on one of Scott Kingery's four singles in the game. One out later, Schick walked Bobby Dalbec and was lifted in favor of lefty Chris Muse-Fischer.
Riley Moore reached on an infield single, which loaded the bases, but Muse-Fisher was able to strike out Oliva and induce an inning-ending ground from Matijevic, who earlier in the at-bat missed a bases-clearing double by inches with a foul ball down the left field line.
Matt Ladrech (6-4) earned the win with five solid innings on the mound. The left-hander scattered six hits, walked two and struck out three as he allowed only one run.
Dalbec (2-5), who left with one out in the sixth, took the loss. He was charged with four runs -- two earned -- on five hits and a walk.
The bottom half of the Golden Bears' lineup did most of the damage against Dalbec and the Arizona staff. The No. 6-9 hitters drove in seven of the eighth runs.
