Bucks rookie O'Bryant sidelined by MCL sprain
Milwaukee Bucks rookie forward Johnny O'Bryant is out indefinitely after an MRI taken over the weekend revealed a grade III sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
O'Bryant will not require surgery and has already begun the rehabilitation process. While the Bucks did not put a timetable on O'Bryant's return, the injury he suffered usually carries a six-to-eight week recovery time.
The 36th-overall pick in last June's draft, O'Bryant was injured with 6 minutes, 31 seconds to play in the third quarter of Milwaukee's 94-80 preseason loss to the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 9.
O'Bryant fell hard to the floor while following Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope under the basket. He had to be helped to the locker room by teammates Zaza Pachulia and Michael Eric.
The rookie out of LSU played six minutes and missed all three of his field-goal attempts in the Bucks' preseason opener against Memphis in Green Bay, Wis., on Oct. 8. O'Bryant had two points with one rebound and four fouls in eight minutes against the Pistons before he was injured.
With O'Bryant on the shelf, both of Milwaukee's second-round picks are injured. Forward Damien Inglis is still recovering from a fractured right foot suffered during a pre-draft workout. He has been doing light basketball activity at practice but it is unknown as to when he'll return to practice.
O'Bryant was trying to fight for minutes in the frontcourt during training camp. The Bucks have a logjam at power forward and center, which means O'Bryant could be buried on the depth chart when he returns.
