Buccaneers place RB Doug Martin on injured reserve
Doug Martin's season is over.
The running back was placed on injured reserve Friday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced. The second-year player finishes the season with 456 yards and one touchdown on 127 carries.
Martin, 24, sustained a torn labrum in his left shoulder while catching a pass from rookie quarterback Mike Glennon in a Week 7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome. He hadn't played since, and Friday's move shows Tampa Bay's interest in preserving the Pro Bowl talent with the season long lost at 0-8.
Rookie Mike James has started two games in Martin's absence, performing well in the process. James has 254 yards on 55 carries, including 158 on 28 attempts in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.
Martin, a Boise State product, had 1,454 yards with 11 touchdowns as a rookie.
