Browns trim roster, waive Marcus Benard
BEREA, Ohio — The Browns made the following moves to get down to the 75 limit by 4 p.m. Monday. They waived/injured defensive end Marcus Benard, defensive lineman Auston English and defensive back Antwuan Reed.
Benard suffered a dislocated elbow against the Eagles, while English and Reed suffered undisclosed injuries this past week. Benard missed most of last season after being involved in a motorcycle accident after four games. His rookie season he had 3.5 sacks and then had 7.5 sacks in 2010 after signing as an undrafted free agent from Jackson State.
The Browns also placed linebackers Chris Gocong and Emmanuel Acho on injured reserve, which means they are out for the season. Phil Taylor was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list which means he must sit out at least six weeks before returning.
Gocong was injured in practice, while Acho was injured against the Packers and hasn’t practiced since.
The Browns added defensive lineman Ernest Owusu off waivers from the Vikings. Owusu (6-4, 275) was an undrafted free agent from California.
The roster has to be to 53 by 9 p.m. Friday Aug. 31.
