Browns place Gipson on IR, elevate Solomon from practice squad
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina-- Tashaun Gipson was hoping to get the chance to intercept a pass or two in Sunday's game against the Panther's Cam Newton.
That's not going to happen.
Gipson was declared out on Friday, but was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Saturday, which will sideline him for the season finale next week in Baltimore. The Browns replaced Gipson on the active roster by elevating linebacker Scott Solomon from the practice squad.
Gipson was injured on Nov. 23 when he collided with cornerback Joe Haden in the win over the Falcons suffering a tear in the MCL in his right knee. Gipson was leading the NFL with six interceptions after the 11 games he played and is still tied with Detroit's Glover Quin for the league lead despite missing the last three games.
Gipson has 11 interceptions in the last two seasons, tied with Seattle's Richard Sherman for the top spot . Gipson will be a restricted free agent after this season, allowing the Browns to match any offers that Gipson were to get. Gipson finished the season with 52 tackles.
Solomon has played in 24 NFL games over the past three seasons with Tennessee, New York Jets and Tampa Bay.
