BEREA, Ohio -- They're halfway done.
At least, in terms of signing their draft picks, as the Browns announced the signing of running back Terrance West on Wednesday.
With the West signing, the Browns have come to terms with their last three picks this year in cornerback Pierre Desir, linebacker Christian Kirksey and West. Still unsigned are both first-round picks, cornerback Justin Gilbert, quarterback Johnny Manziel and second-round pick offensive lineman Joel Bitonio.
GM Ray Farmer was excited to add West on the night of the draft.
"I'm really excited to have him," Farmer said. I don't know if I'd call it a steal. I do think this was a deep draft to kind of go back to one of the comments before. We're fortunate enough to have the young man and I do think he has a chance to help our football team improve."
West has been alternating with Ben Tate during OTAs and minicamp with the first team. Tate sat out Wednesday's practice and West took most of the snaps.
West (5-10, 225) was selected in the third round (94th overall), the second of the Browns' two third-round selections after the Browns traded up with the 49ers to select him. He started 23 of 37 games at Towson before forgoing his senior year.
"I just have a nose for the end zone," West said after the Browns drafted him. "I love scoring points. I love to help my team out. I love to win. I hate to lose. Like you said before, when I'm running the ball, I only see the goal line. I don't see anybody else of the field. I just see me and that goal line, and let's just get some points up on that board."
He rushed for 4,849 yards on 802 carries (6.1 avg.) with 84 touchdowns, while adding 36 receptions for 385 yards and two scores. His 84 rushing touchdowns tied the FCS career record set by Adrian Peterson (Georgia Southern 1998-2001). West recorded 23 100-yard rushing games, including six 200-yard games.
In 2013, West set an FCS single-season record with 2,509 rushing yards, while leading Towson to the national championship game.
