Browns drop defensive lineman, add tight end

BEREA, Ohio - The Cleveland Browns on Tuesday signed TE Gerell Robinson. General Manager Ray Farmer made the announcement.

To make room on the roster, the team waived DL Jacobbi McDaniel.

Robinson is 6-3, 220 pounds and officially in his first NFL season out of Arizona State. He re-joins the Browns, where he was inactive for three games and dressed but did not play in one other this season. He was waived on Oct. 18. Originally signed by Denver as an undrafted free agent, Robinson spent part of the 2012 season on Arizona's practice squad and all of 2013 and Week 1 of the 2014 season on Denver's practice squad. As a wide receiver as Arizona State, he recorded 135 receptions for 2,071 yards and 12 touchdowns in 47 games. Born in Gary, Ind., Robinson graduated from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz.

McDaniel spent the first six weeks of the season on the club's practice squad before making his NFL debut as a reserve at Jacksonville on Oct. 19.
