PHOENIX – As first reported last week, free-agent guard Shannon Brown is returning for a second season with the Suns.
The team announced Brown's signing on Wednesday. The contract is for two years, with the second year partially guaranteed. He will compete with Jared Dudley and Wesley Johnson for time at the shooting guard position.
"Shannon was a valuable member of our team last season, especially during the second half of the season when we were at our best," said Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby. "We look for his improved play to continue."
Brown, a 6-foot-4 guard, is a six-year NBA veteran who had his best statistical season as a pro with Phoenix in 2011-12. He averaged a career-best 11.0 points per game while averaging 23.7 minutes. He averaged 15.6 points a game when inserted into the starting lineup in place of an injured Grant Hill for the season's final 17 games.
Brown has a career scoring average of 7.7 points in 315 games with Cleveland, Chicago, Charlotte, Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix.
