Briles on controversial poll vote: 'It wasn't me'

Art Briles' Baylor team beat TCU back on Oct. 11, but still finds itself behind the Frogs in both human polls, though both teams have just one loss.

Baylor is the only team in either poll who trails a team with an identical record who it also beat.

As the debate has raged in recent weeks, Briles' controversial poll ballot in 2008 surfaced. Texas beat Oklahoma 45-35 in October, but at the end of the season, Briles had Oklahoma No. 1 on his ballot and Texas all the way down at No. 5. No coach had the Longhorns lower.

Briles' explanation for why was simple: It wasn't him.

"I didn't vote on that poll. I passed it on to somebody in the office," he said.

Each year, USA Today commissions half the FBS coaches to submit a top 25 ballot each week.

"I've done it that way every year. If they ask me not to vote again, I'm fine with it," Briles said.

Baylor hosts Oklahoma State this week while TCU takes on off week ahead of its Thanksgiving showdown with Texas in Austin.

"I didn't know there was a raging debate going on, to be honest with you," Briles said. "Last I checked, I wasn't on the committee."
