Briles hopeful Petty can play Saturday
It looks like the Baylor Bears will have the services of quarterback Bryce Petty when it wraps up Big 12 play Saturday against Kansas State.
Petty was knocked out of last weekend's 48-46 win Texas Tech with a mild concussion in the third quarter.
Petty, who said he will play against Kansas State, has progressed through the school's concussion protocol and head coach Art Briles is holding out hope that Petty is available for the seventh-ranked Bears.
"He was better yesterday and I think as today goes by, tomorrow, then we'll get a more clear picture of where he's at," Briles said. "Right now we're feeling like he's going to be ready to go Saturday."
Petty threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns before the injury and Seth Russell finished the Texas Tech game for the Bears.
Russell also started a game earlier this season against Northwestern State when Petty was out with a back injury. In that game Russell threw for 438 yards and five touchdowns.
Baylor (10-1, 7-1 in Big 12) is tied with Kansas State (9-2, 7-1) and TCU (10-1, 7-1) for the Big 12 lead. A win against the Wildcats guarantees the Bears at least a share of the Big 12 title.
