Brewers sign veteran reliever Albers
The Milwaukee Brewers keep making moves.
A few days after making a splash with a pair of major additions in the outfield the Brewers added another arm to the bullpen, signing right-hander Matt Albers to a two-year contract.
Originally drafted by the Houston Astros in 2001, the 35-year-old revitalized his career last season with the Washington Nationals, going 7-1 with a 1.62 ERA and 0.852 WHIP in 63 appearances.
He had previously signed a minor-league deal with the Nationals following a disastrous 2016 season with the Chicago White Sox in which his ERA ballooned to 6.31 in 58 appearances. He has played for seven major-league teams overall, and has a 4.13 ERA and 1.392 WHIP in 515 career appearances across 12 seasons.
Albers is the third pitcher to sign with the Brewers this offseason, joining Jhoulys Chacin and Yovani Gallardo.
The Brewers sent four prospects to the Miami Marlins for outfielder Christian Yelich last week, then signed fellow outfielder Lorenzo Cain to a whopping five-year, $80 million deal in free agency.
