Unable to come to terms on a multi-year deal, the Brewers Saturday renewed the contract of closer John Axford.

The 28-year-old right-hander set a franchise record last season with 46 saves – tied for the National League lead – while posting a 2-2 record and a 1.95 ERA in 74 appearances. Over his last 30 appearances, Axford had a 0.59 ERA and finished the year with ten scoreless appearances.

Since taking over as the Brewers' closer on May 23, 2010, Axford has converted 70 of 75 save opportunities.

With Axford signed, all players on the Brewers' 40-man roster are now under contract for 2012.
