MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Wily Peralta will have his scheduled start bumped back from Sunday to Tuesday to give his strained left hamstring a few more days to heal.
Left-hander Tom Gorzelanny will make a spot start Sunday against the New York Mets, with Peralta taking the ball Tuesday against Cincinnati.
"Just making sure this thing doesn't come up again," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "He's good again today. We don't want him to go out Sunday and then the second and third inning he feels something again. If we can back him back a couple of days, which we can, it makes sense for us to do that."
Peralta left Tuesday's start in Washington after retiring Nationals left fielder Bryce Harper on a bunt ground ball for the first out of the sixth inning with the game tied at 0-0.
His bullpen session Friday was called "outstanding" by Roenicke, but the Brewers decided to be cautious with their rookie right-hander.
Gorzelanny will be making his second start of the season, as he worked four innings and allowed just one run in a spot start June 8 against Philadelphia.
Rotation set: With Peralta slated to go Tuesday, Roenicke could set his starting pitchers for the Cincinnati series.
Right-hander Kyle Lohse will start Monday against Homer Bailey, Peralta will face Reds rookie left-hander Tony Cingrani, while Brewers rookie right-hander Johnny Hellweg will take on Mike Leake on Wednesday afternoon.
There was some speculation Hellweg would be sent back to Triple A after struggling again Friday, but he'll get another chance to improve upon a 12.79 ERA.
Originally slated to start Tuesday, right-hander Donovan Hand will have his start bumped back, likely to Friday in Arizona.
Braun takes BP: Brewers left-fielder Ryan Braun took batting practice on the field Saturday for the first time since going on the disabled list with an inflamed nerve in his right hand.
Since the Brewers don't take batting practice on the field before day games, Braun will hit in the batting cage underneath Miller Park on Sunday before hitting on the field again Monday.
If all goes well, Braun could be activated from the disabled list sometime next week.
"We have to make a move somewhere when Braun comes back," Roenicke said. "If he's good in these BPs the next couple of days, he'll be coming back somewhere, and we need to make a change. Probably with a pitcher."
